Shetland Arts
Shetland Arts has funding to commission three textile artists each to create a small piece of work for inclusion in the Portage: Extremes of Scale exhibition that will shown be at Bonhoga Gallery in October 2010.
Lilypad Arduino is a mini-controller circuitboard with software that is designed to be incorporated into textiles. Designed in the States by Leah Buechley this technology combines textile techniques with computer components and coding to create an ultramodern genre of craft. Its processes are relatively simple to learn and the applications are infinite.
Proposals are invited from full or part-time Shetland-based craft makers working in textiles to take part in the project to create a small work using this programmable 50mm microcontroller circuitboard and toolkit. The overall size of the piece should be no larger than A4. There are three starter kits available and an additional £50 commission fee for each of the three textile artists selected to take part.
If you would like to be considered for this project please submit a proposal, on no more than a sheet of A4, outlining your relevant experience and ideas for the piece. The work will need to be completed and submitted by 1st October 2010.
The closing date for submissions is 5pm on Friday 3rd September 2010.
