CultureCandy's UncommonThread Wearable Art Show is a national competition that seeks the very best in wearable art. Since 2007 UncommonThread has fostered a respectful and accessible environment for artists and audience alike by provide a stunning venue and an excited atmosphere to showcase talent from across the country. UncommonThread is a visually captivating presentation of art accompanied by inventive musical collaborations, lighting, set, and costume design, and modern dance. This year's competition will award $1000.

Uncommon Thread - 2008  

UncommonThread significance is reinforced by the expertise of our jurors. Past show have been jurored by art historian Susan Ryan, designer Suzanne Peron, sculptor Loren Schwerd, fiber artists Cecelia Kane, and Fiber Arts Magazine editor Liz Good. The juror, Manhattan’s Jon Coffelt the lead designer for Brindisi, designed swimwear for Nora Nash and worked with Willi Smith (Williwear) in design and fabric selection. He was the former publisher of Alabama Art Monthly and has been in over 50 solo and 150 group exhibitions.

This year’s theme is Transmogrify which means to transform in a sudden or magical way. The challenge is to create a wearable piece that figuratively or physically transforms either the wearer or the viewer.
