Mix Kicks: Wireless Wearable for Mixing Beats

Mix Kicks is a wireless wearable that allows you to sample and mix beats through physical gestures and movement.

The act of stamping your feet allows the user to "make beats." The left shoe plays the sample while the right loops it.

The samples are selected by using the zipper on the hood.

The project uses the Lilypad Arduino, bluetooth, and max msp.

It's quite amusing to watch the video and the interaction—I'm sure even more fun to wear it!

I don't know what kind of sensor you mean. because we always find unnecessary signal when your foot is in the air or sometimes dancers' movement didn't trigger the force sensors.
Therefore, i will try to work by sound, or is there any shock wave sensor!?
thanks

What of some conductive flooring and capacitance sensors?

i hope microphone work. i cannot wait to see how it turns out.

btw, bluetooth is perfect for this.

I had a quick dialog w themattstick via youtube comments.

he said:
- used 2 x Force Sensitive Resistor 12mm.
- used bluetooth arduino, also experimented with xbee as well but bluetooth gave better range and easier to use.

I'm not sure i agree about the bluetooth vs zigbee statement, but bluetooth looks to be working well enough.

no clue regarding the sensor but I'm assuming any type of pressure sensor will work.

Like your yellow jacker board btw.

I'm working on something similar. I love the shoe interface. Any clue what type of sensors were used?

I'm working towards an arduino sending OSC over wifi for ease of intergration into existing DJ/VJ rigs: http://asynclabs.com/store?page=shop.product_details&product_id=24
