Animating the Inanimate
Electronic textiles are perfectly suited to animating inanimate objects by imbuing them with an electronic, sensory skin. Media artist Shiori Saito uses e-textiles in her artwork to infuse an emotional narrative into everyday objects.
Embroidering conductive thread into the upholstery of a couch, Saito in her latest project "Kehai" transforms an ordinary piece of furniture into an intimate, playful experience.
By touching the armrest, ordinary domestic sounds are triggered to play. I love the simple idea of animating the inanimate in subtle, playful and unexpected ways.
