Got my hands on a few BlinkMs today! These tiny RGB LEDs are such a breeze to program their color sequence thanks to the super simple interface developed by ThingM—aka Mike Juniavsky and Tod Kurt .

You do need an arduino to get started with the BlinkMs but once programmed, the BlinkMs can easily be integrated into any wearable project independent of a microcontroller.

I'm going to modify the Rock Star headphones project with BlinkMs—I'll keep you posted on my progress.
