Metamorphosis

I'm thrilled to announce the release of a new book Metamorphosis by Stoffel Kuenen and Elisabetta Cianfanelli, from the University of Florence, Department of Industrial Design and Fashion Design.

As the the book's title insinuates, Metamorphosis is about the transformation of the consumer goods industry— specifically the fashion industry— and its relationship with consumers.

The book uses the italian fashion industry as a case study to explore a "a human-centered application of the latest technologies" in all aspects of the production chain.

What this means is that consumers of fashion are transformed into users of fashion. This slight semantic shift has large implications as far as fashion is concerned. Kuenen and Cianfanelli are envisioning a future fashion industry centered around "fashion products" that are infused with functional, expressive and communicative properties — in essence, an industry poised to develop, produce and market wearable technology.

Metamorphosis is beautifully designed and has over 200 pages of full color illustrations and images. The book will certainly be a lovely addition to your fashion tech library.

I'll be posting a more thorough review in the upcoming weeks.
