According to
this article via Detroit News, "smart" inks are fashion's current saving muse in this bleak economy.
I must admit I find it a little surprising that a little thermochromatic magic can lift sales, but I have been seeing A LOT of new companies and independent designers using "smart" inks in their designs.
Take Designer Bob Bland at
Brooklyn Royalty, for example, who is known for the unique treatments she uses with her fabrics. For 2009, Bland uses thermochromatic inks in Ts and Jerseys.
According to Bland:
“Thermochromatic jerseys are undoubtedly one of the biggest emerging trends,” Bland said, “but at Brooklyn Royalty, we are even more exited about future applications of the Body Faders’ technology on finer woven fabrics like silk charmeuse, organic denim and wool. Definitely look for more interactivity in fabrics from us in future collections.”
"Let's Dance" Tshirt
Another company that has caught my eye is
The Ryde. The Ryde makes and retails the "
Let's Dance" shirt that has a GLOW IN THE DARK MIRROR BALL for a mere $24 bucks.
Of course, with a DIY ethos, you too can be ahead of the curve and simply craft your own designs.
