Decorative Thermochromic Panel Experiments

Thermochromic Panel

Mark Meagher, an architect, researcher and PhD candidate based at the EPFL Media and Design Lab in Lausanne, Switzerland is experimenting with smart inks to create decorative and dynamic architectural panels.

Mark is interested in creating " temporal patterns as part of the experience of architecture, analogous to the way a sundial measures a quality of the environment (the position of the sun) to indicate the passage of time over the course of a day."

Below are some of his process photos that I think you will find interesting. Instead of screenprinting the panels, he airbrushes the thermoinks, arriving at nice and consistent coat.

Lastly, Mark is building a control system for the panels. His current system uses a PCA9635 LED driver to control the circuits on the thermochromic panel.
