In her MA project
Filter the Filth,
Chloe Albert imbues wallpaper with the extraordinary sensitivity of detecting Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) — major part of air pollution— in the air. As contaminant levels rise, the wallpaper animates circular decorative discs, signaling high levels of toxins in the immediate environment.
Beyond being a novel carbon monoxide detector, each disc in the wallpaper is fitted with a filter that lowers the VOC levels in addition to creating a visible sensory experience from our invisible atmosphere.
