Jimmy Choo's Illuminated Heels

Following on the heels of Lagerfeld and the Rodarte sisters, Jimmy Choo is the latest shoe designer to add a bit of twinkle to his SS 2010 collection.

The Zap Sandal, priced at $2,495 USD, is a patent leather and suede sandal with a 5" lucite heel that illuminates when you hit the dance floor.

I love it when famous designers integrate even the slightest bit of technology (yes LEDs count!) into their collections. I feel this is important because it brings the idea of integrating technology into fashion into the collective consciousness—even if on a very superficial level.

Unfortunately, to me, the Jimmy Choo's are a bit of disappointment. I'm sure he was channeling some disco theme but I'm left unimpressed. Perhaps my bias is simply a matter of taste — I love the juxtaposition of "light" and "texture" in Rodarte's glowing heels and the camp of Lagerfeld's incandescent bulb heel illuminated by an LED.

I'm also curious as to how the lights are switched on? Motion? Pressure of the heel? Or by flipping a standard switch? Perhaps the interaction design of the shoe is an entirely different matter…

So I turn the question to you.

I think my favorite lighted heels are actually the Twinkle Toes from Diana Eng's book. Of the three, I think I'd pick the Rodarte version - though the Jimmy Choos would strike my fancy more without that yellow!

I prefer the Jimmy Choo shoe, better integration of technology - it looks normal without being normal, and it's a better style
