Knitting, embroidering and crocheting with Conductive Thread

Knitted Mittens with Conductive Thread

I personally don't have the patience to knit but recently I've been thinking more and more of integrating conductive threads and yarns into three-dimensional objects. In my search to find examples of knitwear using conductive threads, I discovered Fionnuala Murphy's conductive mittens.

It looks like she integrates the conductive thread every few rows.

Hannah Perner-Wilson and Mika Satomi have also recently developed these wonderful crocheted pressure sensors and potentiometers, using a combination of ordinary thread and conductive yarn from Schoeller.

Another project they currently have in progress is a knit stretch sensor that decreases in resistance when stretched.

Learn more about their crocheted and knitted sensors here.

Lastly, Adrian Freed from CNMAT embroidered a keyboard pattern using conductive thread and an embroidery machine.

It's great to see all of these experiments that merge different crafting techniques with conductive threads and fabrics.

Hello,I had purchase 200yards of conductive yarns to be use in my project basically for the purpose to introduce heat in a knitted sock, before i try to analyst this thread for the heating purpose i want to confirm if really the thread have the properties to liberate heat that can conduct easily with the human body. Thanks
