RFID Jewelry

Designed by artist Amy Johnston, Hidden Agendas is an open mesh collar constructed from 45 RFID tags. Each tag, which can be read by an RFID reader, is programmed to display an image, quote, or question about tracking, surveillance and projection of identity.

Much of Amy's work uses jewelry as a vehicle of questioning how technology is affecting and altering contemporary notions of identity. Hidden Agenda's specifically addresses the pervasive threat of RFID technology specifically related to our identity and the space of our physical bodies.

Why is this important?
As designers, crafters and artists pursuing a passionate interest in embedding technologies into fashion, it is important to be critical of the work and aware of the consequences of the work that we make.

Issues of surveillance and identity theft needed to be addressed when we begin to embed various technologies into garments . The misuse of the technologies we design are just as relevant as the benefits of the technologies themselves.
