In the hands of Berlin-based designer
Tonia Welter, an ordinary USB drive is transformed into a gorgeous piece of modern jewelry. Unlike most other attempts I have seen to transform flash drives into decorative wear, Welter's work is minimal, refined and doesn't scream "technology."
RIO Bracelet
My favorite piece is the RIO bracelet made from knit sterling silver. Its form alludes to a cable but is so delicately made that you would never guess it is a flash drive with 2-4 GB of memory.
Palermo Bracelet
The other show stopper is the PALERMO bracelet with a thick chain and punk rock elegance.
Welter's work attempts to redefine the asthetic and functional value of high tech elements. From what I can observe so far, she is doing a fantastic job!
