Vega Wang's Bioluminescent Couture

Vega Wang's Bioluminescent Couture

Bioluminescent jellyfish and creatures from the BBC's Deep Blue were the inspiration for Vega Wang's transcendental collection ‘Into the Deep‘. I have never seen electroluminescent film look so chic.

Ms. Wang artfully balances fashion with tech by creating breathtaking luminescent patterns from custom EL panels glowing from inside structured white gowns.

This collection is rich in imagination and lacks the trappings of gimmicky that too often luminescent fashion falls victim to.

Check out the her passionate interview on Creators Project and the wonderful video interview.

My favorite quote:

What do you think the future is for technology in design?
I think technology is helping to bring the handmade back.

fyi, from the video it looks like she used EL Tech from Elumin8.

Maybe she's using a commercially available solution that can run a sequence of panels to do the animation. Then should would not have to make a circuitboard or program anything.

I would think you should be able to get a battery powered inverter to fix the voltage. And it can't be high on power consumption, even assuming you would want to run it for a long time. Although it may not be strictly wearable if it plugs into the wall, it's definitely very very beautiful!

no its necessary. she's actually plugged it into a wall outlet. That dress in particular because it animates (did you see the video? it's near the middle portion). I think it just needs a lot of voltage to get it going ..

What's up with the wire on the ground in the first pic. Do you think it's a sort of joke or that it's necessary?
